The State of Alaska

Due to the actions of Secretary of State William Seward Alaska was purchased from Russia for $7,200,000 on April 9, 1867. This was called "Sewards Folly" because until the discovery of gold and oil many people saw Alaska as a wasteland.

The map below shows the State of Alaska broken up into different areas. I visited the Inside Passage, an archipelago in southern Alaska.
