5 July 2010

Monday

We started the day with a 7 mile walk. We walked from the house at Papke's landing and walked down to the Blind River, the boardwalk where I saw the bears the first day. The first few miles weren't too bad and we rested for a bit in a little shelter by the water before making our way back.

Here's the hut. It was drizzling but it never really turned into rain that day.

The view from inside the hut, this is the same place we saw the bears on the first day. No bears today though.

Blind River Rapids
The salmon were beginning to run and you could see them jumping up out of the water. I spent a while trying to capture one jumping but realized that it wasn't going to happen.

We sat for a while and then proceded to hike back to the house. I was doing really well with the hiking, until the last half mile. At that point I kept up the chant in my head, "We are almost there, just keep picking them up and putting them down." The road we were hiking on was very hilly and the uphills burned my calves and the downhills caused pain in my shins. I was very happy to get back to the house and drop for a while onto the couch.

We ran into town for some errands before coming back to the house where I completely crashed. All the hiking wore me out.
